An Unexpected Source Of Votes?

This is headline news in the Tribune today. I'm done with the conspiracy theories, but I thought it interesting to report.

WASHINGTON - The autopsy on John Jacob's challenge of U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon will find numerous causes of death, but a major blow came from an unexpected source: a statement by LDS Church leaders urging members to vote in the primary.
When President Bush endorsed Cannon, it was a topic of considerable discussion. The impact of the church's get-out-and-vote admonition to members, however, has been largely overlooked.
It is impossible to quantify exactly how either moved the final results, but in a district where an overwhelming majority of voters are Mormon, it clearly helped to drive a record primary turnout, which contributed to Cannon's surprisingly comfortable margin of victory.

The article states that the Primary pulled in 20% higher turn-out that last year. One thing that is an interesting consideration, is if the LDS Church can get their members to the polls for Cannon, they can certainly do so for Romney.

I tried to get a copy of the letter, which is available online to subscribers of the Deseret Morning News, which I am not.
