Common Sense Is Instinct, But Enough Of It, Is Genius!

I heard that qoute many years ago and always though it wise.

Given my disdian for most letters to the editor, not counting my own, that is, I was pleasantly surprised to read not one, but two letters just exuding common sense. Both letters are in regard to the recent protest at the University of Utah over his keynote address that may or may not be given by Jazz owner and dealership guy, Larry Miller.

The first letter can be found here. Key excerpts:

...How can a diverse set of views be presented by removing opinions from the public debate? Diversity inherently brings into the discussion ideas and opinions with which people may not agree. Do proponents of diversity really mean inclusion only of ideas with which they agree?

The second letter, found here, is similar in context. Key excerpts:

It seems that if you support liberal causes (abortion, gay rights, etc.) you have a right to free speech, to voice your views in this country. But if you do not believe in these things, you've no right to express yourself publicly.
When did this happen? When did freedom of speech become the exclusive right of liberals? Why are those who disagree with these causes scorned and shunned? Most of those who disagree with these liberal causes are not filled with hatred, they just don't agree with them.

Common Sense. There is indeed hope.
